Job Summary

We are seeking a Landscape Architect / Project Manager to play a key leadership role in shaping our evolving professional practice. This is more than a job – it’s an opportunity to work with allied disciplines in the planning, design, and construction of a diverse range of open space projects at varying scales in Edmonton, Calgary, and across Alberta and British Columbia. Projects range from neighbourhood renewals and regional trails and corridors to large public parks, campuses, multi-modal streetscapes, waterfronts, plazas and custom detailed design.

Job Description

Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s and (or) Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture or Environmental Design. Candidates with related or transferable educational experience (such as Urban Design, Planning, Architecture, Environmental, Horticulture or GIS) may also be considered.
  • Registered Landscape Architect with the AALA or a regulated component of the CSLA;
OR
  • A design professional with a minimum of five (5) years of office or field experience in a comparable consulting role, with preference given to candidates with more experience. Previous public, institutional or land-based work experience (such as site construction, land surveying, landscape maintenance) will also be considered.
  • Preference will be given to individuals with professional registration with the AALA or actively pursuing registration. Project management education, experience and credentials (e.g. PMP) is also desirable.
  • A reliable vehicle and a valid Class 5 driver’s license (project-based mileage is compensated).
Desired Skills and Strengths
  • Consider yourself a “full spectrum practitioner,” with technical experience and expertise in the preparation of conceptual and detailed design drawings (site plans, grading, stormwater management, planting, details, etc.), specifications, cost estimates, tender/contract documents reports and proposals.
  • Strong written, interpersonal and graphic presentation skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with clients, architects, consultants, contractors, and internal team members. Experience with hand graphics is desired.
  • Project management experience including all phases of design, cost estimating, scheduling, procurement, contracts, and construction administration.
  • Significant experience with public and stakeholder engagement approaches and processes.
  • Demonstrate high fluency in AutoCAD, Office365, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat), Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and PDF editing software. Additional skills and experience in Sketchup, Lumion, Land F/X, ArcGIS or QGIS are also strong assets.
  • Solid working knowledge of local plant species, soils, ecosystems, drawings, construction standards, and municipal and provincial approval processes is preferred. A background in ecological restoration and naturalization is desired.
  • Experience with construction administration, including site progress reviews and the coordination of approvals with contractors and municipal authorities.
  • Time management skills with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Possess a high level of attention to detail and quality.
  • Relevant experience working with or for the City of Edmonton, City of Calgary, other Alberta municipalities, and Provincial departments.
  • An established network of contacts and clients in Alberta is desirable.

Working Conditions
  • Full-time (40 hours per week), however part-time candidates may also be considered.
  • This is an in-office position. However, we prioritize employee satisfaction and work-life balance. When possible, we can offer remote working options and flexible hours. These options are subject to workload, departmental needs, and impact on the team.
  • Occasional travel and overtime, including weekends, may be required.
  • This position reports to the Manager, Landscape Architecture (Edmonton).
  • Salary commensurate with education and experience.
